Review of A Star Is Born (1954) by Mike M — 20 Apr 2007
Said by many to be Judy Garlands best, there are certainly some good scenes, however A Star is Born was a little slow paced for me even for a 1950's film. Combines a musical and drama all in one with Garland playing a silver screen musical star and James Mason her alcoholic husband whose film career is spiraling down.
The muscial sequences are okay, however I've scene much better. I saw the lost footage in the edition I watched and would have to agree that the studio made a good decision in shortening the film.
The found audio scenes where still photos were inserted was extremely annoying.
