Review of A Star Is Born (1954) by Jess L — 06 Feb 2013
Yes it's way too long, yes the DVD release contributes to this by adding in the storyboards and deleted audio to provide the "true film experience" and yes no new ground is really tread here, the issue of the washed up actor drinking his problems away is hardly a new one in Hollywood even by 1954.
BUT this is a beautiful film that is raw, funny, touching and a stand out for me because of Garland's wonderful performance and amazing musical numbers. This is truly a cinematic gem.
