Review of A Sound of Thunder (2005) by Rich G — 29 Jul 2007
I guess you either like this movie or you hate it (based on the reviews I've seen). I really enjoyed it. Granted, it's been a long time since I read the Ray Bradbury short story it's based on, but as soon as I started watching it, I remembered having read it.
One thing people need to remember when watching "based on" films is that it in NO WAY implies the film recreates a book or story. The film just uses the book or story as inspiration and so will always vary--usually drastically--from the original work, so it really isn't fair to compare how good a movie is with how good a book is.
In my experience, the book is almost always better (99.999% of the time!). Anyway, I enjoyed it. Yeah, parts were cheesy and I have seen better FX in worse movies, but they weren't all THAT bad...
But the story line itself was pretty good whether you compare it to Bradbury's original or not. I liked the movie enough that I won't mind watching it again and I plan to eventually add it to my DVD collection.
