Review of A Sound of Thunder (2005) by Perry G — 23 Oct 2007
This is one of those movies you expect to be terrible because there's practically no actor in it that you've heard of. Sure the premise sounds neat on the DVD case, but you can never be too sure.
This actually surprised me with how good it was. It wasn't "Wow! Amazing!" or anything like that, but it managed to hold my attention for its duration, and the whole screwing up the past concept was made fresh even when I've seen it used several times before.
Why you would want to go dinosaur hunting - especially if you couldn't bring back a souvenir - is beyond me, but the whole "evolution-in-waves" concept was quite interesting. The only really terrible thing about this movie is the CGI.
You can tell it didn't exactly have a humongous budget - the T-Rex looks like it's made of plastic, for cripes sake. I'll give them kudos for those weird monkey-dinosaur designs... but if they only had better renders.
.. it would have been so much more convincing. So, not worth a buy, but not bad for a watch if you like skulking around alone in the dark with critters after you - minus the hardcore horror and plus a few brains.
Not bad at all.
