Review of A Son of Man (2018) by Pedro E — 03 Dec 2018
A Son of Man is a magical and unforgettable journey into the depths of nature, family and humanity itself. Free from the narrative of conventional fictional cinema, the film manages to portray storylines that are both complex and thought-provoking, while at the same time, by larger account via its magnificent and at times never before seen photographic techniques, keeps the audiences hooked in a mix of fantasy built characters and hyperrealistic landscapes that coexist seamlessly with one another.
The treasure of Atahualpa serves as a formidable MacGuffin to this bizarre coming of age tale in which reality bends itself to the point where we are forced to forget all pre established notions and rules of cinema, only to be thrown into a universe so rich in poetry and metaphor that will require a second or third viewing.
Highly recommended.
