Review of A Soldier's Story (1984) by Lisa B — 14 Jan 2008
Powerfully done film about racism in the segregated U.S. Army during WWII. In particular the films delves deep into one Black officer's ugly racism and self hatred, which he takes out on a private whose behavior he finds regressive and Uncle Tom-ish.
My only complaint about this brilliantly acted and written film, is that it is a bit stagey at times ( it is based on a Pulitzer prize winning play, after all).
