Review of A Single Man (2009) by Greg C — 12 Mar 2011
Truly a remarkable film and understandably one of the best films of 2009. Designer Tom Fordâ(TM)s debut as director proves his creative talents are endless. Colin Firth does an amazing job displaying the agonizing pain one goes through during the loss of a loved one and only inflated when they are not able to grieve openly. It is clear how deserving he was for receiving the Golden Globe and SAG awards. Julianne Moore fulfills the the true definition of a â~hot messâ(TM), but does it with such class and elegance one would expect from the early â~60s.
Admittedly, the dialogue slows the pace of the film but it also defines the mood. One canâ(TM)t help but feel the pain of Firthâ(TM)s character. We are reminded of a time when gay relationships were secret and kept behind closed doors. I also found the film to take on this extended artsy feel and believe that is due to Fordâ(TM)s being behind the camera.
Definitely worth seeing.
