Review of A Single Man (2009) by Jenna G — 12 Mar 2011
Director Tom Ford and now Academy Award-winner Colin Firth do a wonderful job in telling this story of an English professor who lost his lover and attempts to make the best of his life. Firth, who received his first Oscar nomination for his protrayal of George, is utterly phenomenal.
He brilliantly displays everything this man, George, has to offer: Every tick, every quirk, every emotion. His struggles are almost hard to watch, for, as an audience member, makes you want to simply cry.
Firth wonderfully portrays George as a man who has loved a lifetime, but can't seem to grip the fact that his lover is gone. Director Ford does a wonderful job keeping the focus on Firth's George with his taut direction.
And Firth has a wonderful supporting cast backing up him, from Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Nicholas Hoult. Overall, a very solid piece of work.
