Review of A Single Man (2009) by Bank K — 15 Aug 2011
What a laborious film. Spending a few days in the life of a man contemplating suicide is wearying enough without the director inserting flashbacks, slow motion, ponderous chamber music, random close-ups and gimmicky tweaking of the color saturation everywhere he can.
One of the most over-directed movies in recent memory. Fine work by Colin Firth, but the film has little else to recommend it. Least of all, one of Julianne Moore's worst performances ever.
