A nearly perfect film, beautiful in every way. This film takes the cake as Tom Ford's directorial debut; he really put a lot of care and effort into it. I hope to see more films like this from him.

The film really sang due to Colin Firth's (The King's Speech) leading role as George Falconer. His performance was brilliant. He evokes Richard Burton for me. Matthew Goode (Imagine Me and You, Watchmen) and Nicholas Hoult were also splendid while Julianne Moore (The Hours, The Kids are All Right, Magnolia) was glamorous and wonderful as always.

So many aspects of this film struck a chord with me. The music for one and the cinematography effects - for example whenever George feels depressed his 60s era world appears bleak, pale and washed out, but whenever he feels alive there's a subtle change in himself and whoever he is looking at from cool colors to colors so vivid and passionate they appear to be on fire.

The writing was also well done - a good mix of depth, tragedy and even a bit of humor. I am reminded positively of A Serious Man, Capote, The Hours, An Education and the aesthetic delights of the Italian film I am Love.

I am also reminded of The Tree of Life but only because A Single Man succeeds in all the ways The Tree of Life failed to impress me. A Single Man is a ground-breaking yet humble and simple film. I am so happy to be able to recommend something so lovely.
