Review of A Single Man (2009) by Risya H — 18 Dec 2011
A subtle recreation of the past memory and loneliness. Colin Firth's character has a powerful effect on me. His character is really absorbing and powerfully acted. Nicholas Hoult is also absolutely mesmerizing in this.
The story might not be too appealing for the major audience, but imo this is a fairly sensitive subject. Maybe a tad too slow in pacing, but as the result, I felt really involved throughout the film. Very elegant and stylish on technical aspects, unexpectedly surprised by the first direction of Tom Ford who is more well-known as a fashion designer.
This film combines substance with style delicately.
