Review of A Single Man (2009) by Mitch B — 15 Jan 2013
The perfect film. Tom Ford brings his fashion designer's eye to the world of cinema with this beautiful adaptation of Isherwood's novel of the same name. Ford's photography expertly captures the emotion meant for each and every scene.
Colin Firth is a revelation of the tortured titular character mourning the loss of his lover, and Moore is an infusion of utter flash and brilliance. The set design and costumes make one long for 1962.
Heartbreaking, insightful, enraging, and always exquisite. Firth deserved an Oscar for his performance. You feel every gram of pain weighing heavily on his character's heart. The monologue on fear in front of his class is one for the ages.
