Review of A Simple Plan (1998) by Andrew D — 21 Jul 2008
Wonderfully suspenseful. Billy Bob Thornton is fantastic. A great cast, director, composer, and cinematographer collaborate to make a very good dirty money movie in the vein of Hitchcock and the Coen brothers. It's a cautionary morality tale about good and evil, greed, paranoia, and betrayal.
It's a bit too long, though, and could've benefited from extracting excess subplot/backstory fluff to make a more taut crime thriller. Also, some of it is a bit heavy-handed and Bill Paxton is weak in parts.
7.5/10.
