Review of A Simple Plan (1998) by Nate B — 08 Oct 2009
Simple in concept, yet its execution on screen is a fairly conventional, yet engaging time to watch. Some things in this film you can see coming a mile away, some you don't. These are the moments in the film where it really stands out from the typical thriller genre.
Unfortunately there are too many implausible moments to make this an entirely cohesive film. Good performances though all around, especially from Billy Bob Thorton. The best scene in the movie occurs when Thorton asks Bill Paxton's character "Do you ever feel evil?" is great.
It?s a simple scene, but the realization that both men are aware that the future looks pretty bleak is amazing. I like how Raimi as a director can bounce around different genres, usually with good results.
As has been said before, if you're a Coen Brothers fan; you are probably going to find a lot to like here. Recommended, but not required viewing.
