Review of A Simple Favor (2018) by Martin D G — 24 Sep 2018
Could not WAIT for this movie to be over. Omg, the mechanical, SNL-skit style, painfully self-aware "look at us riffing here" acting; the typical Hollywood "have to have every minority group represented" stereotypical characterizations, and just the completely stupid, unbelievable, over-the-top plot (guess I should blame the author of the book upon which this clunker is based for this, to be fair).
...ugh. We laughed (barely), but for all the wrong reasons. If you have an IQ above 100 and enjoy movies that really make you think, trust me: Don't waste your time with this one. If, on the other hand, you like mindless, campy goofiness, with pretty pathetic acting from start to finish (cue the cute kid using profane language! WHAT A HOOT!), go for it.
I'm just glad we saw this on discounted ticket night. Still, big disappointment.
