Review of A Shot in the Dark (1964) by Dave A — 10 Jul 2008
I have a bit of an ambivalent attitude towards Pink Panther films; while Inspector Clouseau is without doubt a classic comic creation; the popularity of the character got Peter Sellers typecast as a purveyor of outrageous over the top stereotypical roles - something he was very good at, but he was also capable of more subtle, deeper characters. If it hadn't been for the popularity of Clouseau, he would not have made such abominable films as The Party.
Nonetheless, the second Panther film, A Shot In The Dark, is without doubt an absolute classic, and the combination of the absurdity of the plot and the chemistry between Sellers and Elke Sommer helps elevate this above the rest of the series.
