Review of A Shot in the Dark (1964) by Adam E — 20 Dec 2008
An excellent example of what can be acheived by good writing and casting. The comedy in this film is executed so simply, the running gags that repeat themselves throughout the film, some genuinely inspired physical comedy and just great characters.....
In addition to this, the story is pretty good too. Up front, Peter Sellers is awesome, his entrance at the beginning is just genius and sets the tone perfectly for whats to come. Herbert Lom is also very good here. Watching his character descend into mania because of Clouseau is so much fun, all twitching eyes and barely supressed rage, the guy is hilarious. Chuck in Kato and his unusual relationship with Clouseau, his attempts to catch him off guard provide some very amusing moments.
Considering that this film is over 40 years old, it has held up remarkably well. No profanity or gross out gags, just well thought out comedy that delivers the goods with real ease....
