Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Zack S — 02 Aug 2011
*sigh* This is why movie-going sucks. People don't like watching a movie that makes them think, but would rather go see a mindless blockbuster. People like to be spoon-fed mass entertainment without the need to think.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with popcorn entertainment at all, but we also need films that makes us think. However, if you are one who doesn't like to think when you're watching a movie, then yeah, you won't like this.
However, if you aren't brain-dead then you should definitely enjoy this. By now, The Coen Brothers are exactly the kind of filmmakers you'll either love or hate. Their films are usually not truly original, but still well made and brilliantly executed.
A Serious Man is no exception as it combines the regular Coen dark humor with a very thought-provoking storyline complete with a great ending. It may not be necessarily for everyone, but I guess the world has to have ignorant people in it right? Believe me, I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but I'm sick of people overlooking an intelligent film and seeing one that's completely inept to the core.
