Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Nerses T — 10 Aug 2011
The film leaves many questions and rooms for interpretations, one of which is to simply accept mystery. Throughout the entire film people may be asking themselves what is so special about it other than Coens' style and homeage to Judaism? Some may even find the protagonist as too weak to act.
However, the main character is supposed to be passive, otherwise the film loses one of its core ideas - act, instead of asking for help from others. In spite of all his politeness, the protagonist always seeks help from others rather than deal with problems on his own.
The ending is anotehr interesting point about the film, as it concludes another theme, explored by the story, which is, even if you always stay true to the laws in your religion, you are always tested and every sin, even if its an exception in your list or a minor deed, has a great impact on how you end your life.
