Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Ernst M — 28 Dec 2011
Like a lot of Coen brothers films the drier style of film making can be hit or miss, this was a near miss. While I enjoyed the oddity of the characters especially the main character Larry Gopnik, the plot sometimes seems pretend to nod of to sleep and then shakes awake to say "Oh yeah I'm still making a movie here".
In terms of where this movie lies with other Coen movies, I would see it sitting beside "The Big Lebowski" and "The Man who wasn't there" but not getting to the "No Country for Old Men" and "Fargo" status.
It's a movie worth seeing but it would best watched with a caffeinated drink in your hand, maybe that was my problem. ;).
