Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Rick Q — 01 Apr 2012
Every time I was "a serious man" I enjoy it more and more. after my most recent third viewing, I have decided that it is among the coen brothers' finest films. it's dark, depressing, and very humorous.
the direction is never slow and always brilliant, and it's edited to perfection. michael stuhlbarg gives an incredible performance as larry gopnik, a jewish family man and college professor, who's life comes crumbling down as he tries to find help and comfort in his religion.
the more depressing the movie gets, the funnier it is. the coem brothers have created nothing short of a masterpiece in "a serious man".
