Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Farhan M — 15 Jan 2015
Wow... SERIOUSLY awesome.
I don't really know how to begin explaining myself here... The cinematography, direction, acting, music, plot, humor... just about everything was superbly done.
The plot was a breath of fresh air, it is one of those movies that begins to come together the more you mull it over, and once it makes sense you can't stop smiling at how clever it is and how much depth it has. While the culture it portrays is predominantly Jewish which in itself is an interesting and entertaining vantage point, anyone who has faced a crisis of faith in any walk of life can find an abundance of stuff to relate to. The absurd moments of dark comedy Larry faces while confronting life's mysteries are confounding, awkward, and downright hilarious. Quite possibly my favorite film of 2009, and probably one of the better films this decade!
