Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Zachary C — 09 Sep 2013
One thing I have to give credit to the Coen Bros. for is that they know what comedy is: comedy is tragedy with time. If you look at this movie it's about a guy who has a wife that wants a divorce, his kids are spoiled brats, his brother is mooching off of his good-will and after his wife gets her divorce she plans to marry his best friend.
(Talk about your life turning to shit.) I won't pretend that I knew what the message was behind this movie because I didn't. The only thing I did know was that this movie was based on the book of Job from the Bible except it was meant to be a black comedy.
I got that at least, but there were way too many other jokes and such things that just flew right over my head. I did notlaugh at all. I don't think this was a movie for me. There are lots of the Coen Bros.
movies that I don't really understand, but this is a movie that I don't even begin to understand.
