That Srdjan Spasojevic claims A Serbian Film is an allegory would be laughable if the flim itself wasn't so soul-destroyingly nasty, repellent and button-pushingly controversial for controversies sake.

Perhaps he really does believe his own hype, which merely makes him ignorant rather than borderline psychotic. That the film is fairly well made in terms of design and technical skills merely makes this more depressing.

Overkilled to the nth degree, I didn't find this shocking so much as deadening; I was utterly desensitised by the time the lead actor shot his wad over the beaten-up woman he'd been orally raping (whilst under the spell of a cattle-strength tranquiliser combined with Viagra, so that he has no control over what he's doing.

.. of course!). Further shots of masturbation, implied paedophilia, necrophilia and bestiality, as well as incest, baby rape, ultra violence and the leads own rape pile up on each other without any effect.

Then there's the death by erect penis through empty eye socket, and possibly the most nihilistic ending I've ever seen (even in death there is apparently no escape from continued sexual assault).

Move along now, there's *really* nothing to see here.
