Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Zack F — 16 Mar 2011
A truly controversial and terrifying piece of cinema that will leave you gut-wrenched, but it's symbolism and theme make it worth watching. Keep in mind this isn't a film the average movie-goer will understand or probably even want to watch. It will really push your gut, so be prepared if you do decide to watch it.
I just want to say, however, to all the reviewers or what-have-you out there: please stop hating the film because of it's brutal imagery. I'm not saying anyone should expect something like that when going into a movie but really, you should have known the film would push the envelope. It's entire purpose is to victimize it's audience, and if you can't grip that idea, don't ever watch another horror movie again. The film remains, in my opinion, amongst the finest horror films in terms of technical achievement and narrative. Emotional aspects and characters aren't much sympathized for, however. The film's most powerful element remains it's theme.
