Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Kim M — 13 Apr 2011
An extremely dislikable film which leaves more questions unanswered than it asks. The film is about the making of a snuff porn film which the director claims will be the highest form of porn. When the star of the film rebels against the more pedophilic and brutal acts he is asked to perform, he is drugged with bull viagra and turns into a deranged sex-monster, killing and fucking his way through a varied cast of characters, mostly put there by force.
What makes this film particularly distasteful is the blatant scenes of paedophilia - not done in a way which the audience's gaze is obfuscated or filtered, but in a direct and tangible way. I would doubt if this film will be unknown by the paedophile community and it sends dangerous messages as to what is right and wrong in how far to go with such matters on screen.
When Chris Morris made his paedophile Brass Eye special, the result was to show humour where there had previously been a one-dimensional discussion of paedophiles. This film seems to give something much worse, a legal eyeful.
