Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Paul K — 31 Oct 2011
Don't know whether to give it 5 or 0 stars, really really fucked up film, I think you would have to be an absolute freak to not walk away from this a bit traumatised. I found the actual story quite interesting and innovative, but there are several scenes I just don't think could be justified in ANY context. You leave your seat at the end of film feeling as though you have been violated, you will need a shower. And to scrub for days, you will wish you had not seen it. And will certainly never forget it. Its something I could never recommend even to hardened gore movie fans. Just crosses too many lines.
I found the acting was quite good, the cinematography ok, but seriously this director is a very fucked up person. Simple as. I am very liberal, love shockers like Martyrs, Hostel etc, but one rule that should be upheld is you dont fuck with kids. Literally. Its immoral and caustic in this film. We all know it happens, it could have been implied rather than shown.
Deeply unpleasant. This takes films like Hostel and rapes the corpses of the films in the shock genre. Deep and meaningful subtext? nah cheap shock tactics.
