Review of A Separation (2011) by Jordan K — 27 Aug 2012
Masterfully shot in modern day Iran, this gripping emotional drama weaves an intricate and morally complex story that keeps the audience emotionally involved for an entire two hours. Though the foreign political and religious themes will impress those not already familiar with the contemporary issues at play with an Iran struggling to face modernity, the more mundane, human issues such as truth, love, justice and family are simply good food for the soul.
It is no great wonder A Separation has won over 50 international film awards including a Golden Bear, an Academy Award, as well as a Golden Globe, to name a few. Highly recommended.
