Review of A Separation (2011) by Matt D — 11 Sep 2012
What a fascinating film this is. It is so refreshing to see a story about Iranians completely devoid of a political context/conflict. Instead we get to see Iranians living normal lives trying to care for their families in the best way they can despite strict religious beliefs and extenuating circumstances.
Everyone in the film has the best intentions of someone other than themselves at heart and I found that really beautiful despite how ugly and complicated the central conflict gets. Truly deserving of that Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
