Review of A Separation (2011) by Ted N — 01 Dec 2012
A married couple are faced with a difficult decision - to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent with Alzheimer's disease.
Gruelling to watch, but a humane, passionate and complex portrait of a family undergoing the consequences of separation in modern Iran. Achieves the sort of subtlety of conflicting motivation that you expect from great novels but rarely see in film.
