Review of A Separation (2011) by Bill B — 15 Dec 2013
It looks to me that the husband represents the group among the dissidents which thinks that an individual of conscience should stay and fight the regime using a steadfast application of deeply held principles. The mother represents the group that wants to either leave the country - or if that is not possible then come to a pragmatic accommodation with the regime that does not involve bloodshed and sacrifice.
The family issues are a microcosm of the countries problems and as in Camus's 'The Plague' each individual has to decide for themselves how to deal with their own situation and how much of a price they will pay to retain their moral dignity.
A good film though not a great one.
