Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Laura C — 21 Aug 2009
Richard Linklater has my vote for coolest director. He backs up his coolness with intelligent scripts, this one based on Philip K. Dick's novel.
In a well thought-out adaptation of the novel, which was published in 1977, Linklater cleverly adds updated slang and cultural references as the story takes place in the not-so- distant future.
A pretty bleak vision tempered by a surprising amount of humour.
