Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Fil A — 11 Dec 2009
Maybe the only way one can successfully film a Philip K Dick novel is via some form of animation. Bladerunner, one might argue, was a great film, and indeed it was, but it bore little resemblance to its source material.
Here, Dick's dark vision of drug abuse, reality and paranoia is transcribed more faithfully. Keanu Reeves is, well, he's Keanu Reeves, as in any Keanu Reeves movie. The acting-his-socks-off award therefore has to go to Robert Downey Jr who is breathtakingly superb.
