Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Peter B — 12 Mar 2010
Begins by revealing too much to be a thriller, establishing too little context to be a political movie, and maintaining too much irony to be a cautionary drug tale. Instead, it's a very funny black comedy.
Then, out of nowhere, it gets serious, but the audience is now too emotionally distant for the film to drag them into the darkness, which is its final goal.
