Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Sean W — 26 Apr 2010
To be honest, I was not expecting to like this movie. The director's previous endeavor dealing with rotoscoped animation (Waking Life) proved to be arduous at best, and I expected the same here. Sure, there are scenes that seemingly go on for no reason other than to placate Linklater's need to wax philosophical, but unlike Waking Life, this movie has a stronger spine and an actual story to tell.
It doesn't completely come together like it wants to, but it manages to raise some interesting questions while entertaining.
