Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by David E — 06 Jun 2010
One of the best adaptations of any of Philip K Dick's works. The rotoscoped animation fits perfectly with the drug addled story. The performances are strong all around, and Linklater's use of the camera, though nothing special, gets the job done.
The visual style in some scenes is hurt by obviously rushed animation, and the (necessary) removal and/or simplification of some scenes mean that the film is not as affecting as the novel, but overall this is definitely and film that must be seen.
