Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Chris N — 09 Aug 2010
Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson are terrific as usual, and Keanu Reaves is surprisingly adept at playing the role of undercover narcotics agent. I'm a huge fan of the rotoscoping technique, and the film provides great insight into the rationale of drug users.
I enjoyed a lot of "Waking Life"-esque conversations here, especially the one about the 18-speed bike. The movie made some compelling points about the difference between cognition and perception, making it a must-see for people interested in how the mind works.
I haven't read the book, though; I'm told that's a bit better.
