Review of A Scanner Darkly (2006) by Chadt. — 17 Jul 2006
The first movie this year I wanted to see a second time. Mind-blowing stuff, especially in light of last week's government-funded Psilocybin clinical trials. This movie raises a range of ethical and philosophical questions about our govenment's role in the drug trade, the nature of addiction, and the brain-damaging effects of long-term drug use.
Critics who call it a series of prattling conversations are missing the point entirely. Simultaneously hilarious and disturbing, A Scanner Darkly is easily the best movie of the year thus far. Now I just hope Linklater's next movie is in 3D - preferably Disney Digital 3D.
