Review of A Royal Affair (2012) by Vinnie G — 14 Jul 2012

I don't tend to get attracted to period pieces, but this one was enthusiastically recommended to me.

Whilst there remains a bit of a wall between my usual tastes and this genre - the film has some real, honest, naked acting which provides some genuine nail-biting tension in places; all played out against a backdrop of lush sets and breathtaking cinematography.

Not a whiff of Merchant Ivory/bodice ripping clichés, just a solid (and fascinating) story throughout which builds to a genuinely moving conclusion.
