Review of A Royal Affair (2012) by Rob L — 03 Dec 2012
A superb costume drama from Denmark that is roughly contemporaneous to The Madness of King George and shares some of that film's themes, along with the kind of dark underbelly you might expect given that several actors from drama series The Killing feature.
Recently the winner of a Cannes best actor role for his performance in Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt, Mads Mikkelsen is excellent as the German doctor, Johan Struensee, a man who wheedles enlightenment ideas into the Danish court but has a weakness for the ladeez, in particular one very important one. Without doubt one of the films of 2012.
