Review of A Royal Affair (2012) by James T — 15 May 2013
Lavishly shot historical drama that never falls into the trap of melodrama or style over substance thanks to thoughtful characterisation and peeling back layers of the social climate of the time. Held up by a trio of impressive performances and assured, steady direction, A Royal Affair takes what seems like an age old tale and gives it a fresh, interesting zest.
The story of a relationship bewteen a King, his Queen and personal physician and how their actions would echo through a generation revolutionising Denmark and freeing the people from religious oppression and ideals.
