Review of A Royal Affair (2012) by Paul P — 31 May 2013
A film that is, essentially, anti-Christian at heart. Above anything, it praises "enlightenment ideals" that treat Christian idealism as a symbol of oppression. The film fashions those who have a faith in God--Guldberg, Juliane Marie, and the Cabinet--as cruel, vindictive people, when in fact they couldn't be anything further from Christ.
The film is absolutely a modern one, with modern sensibilities. By putting Struensee and Caroline as the film's tearjerkers, the ones we see oppressed, we come to believe their atheistic ideals are praiseworthy--the "correct" way to rule a country.
Perhaps this film grants an understanding as to why the Danes believe what they do. All in all, this film is a corrupt mess.
