Review of A Royal Affair (2012) by Iikka V — 14 Aug 2013
A very beautifully shot historical drama set in the court of King Christian VII of Denmark. In fact it's one of the most visually beautiful films I've seen in a while. The acting is also great, especially from Mikkel Boe Følsgaard playing the mentally ill king, and Alicia Vikander playing the teenage queen consort who is trapped in a loveless political marriage with her cousin, but who, instead of being a clueless Marie Antoinette type, strongly pushes her progressive reforms with Struensee (the king's physician), to bring Denmark to the age of enlightenment.
