A simple Merchant-Ivory about a love that transcends class, a common theme in most M-I pictures, but this one adds light humour with Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and anti-Edwardian Daniel Day Lewis for comic relief.
The romance between Julian Sands and Helena Bonham Carter is impressive and poignant to say the least.
