Review of A Room with a View (1986) by Maria E — 18 Sep 2007
This movie, much of it set in Florence (where Lucy and her aunt are promised a 'room with a view'), is an (almost two hour long) painting. From the Arno and the idyllic Italian countryside to the gorgeous Helena Bonham Carter, who looks like the subject of a pre-Raphaelite painting, every element, every brushstroke, of this film is perfect.
This film is pure and heavenly romance. My favorite Merchant-Ivory, and one of my favorite movies of all time. I don't recommend watching this film every day, though, unless you actually live in such transcendent surroundings.
