Review of A Room with a View (1986) by Barb D — 13 Oct 2009
There are few movies that capture the innocence of the pain of respectful courtship and the agony of falling into love within the respect for gentility of these nobler days. I think Julian Sands and Helena Bonham Carter do a good job of convincing me of the reality of that opportunity in this period.
I am particularly taken by the innocent horseplay of men in the swimming hole scene during Victorian pre-homophobic definitions of friendship boundaries among males... and the entirety of Julian Sands character. Both romantically noble and decisive... too rare a combination in current times. Judi Dench always shines.
