Review of A River Runs Through It (1992) by Dennis L — 04 May 2008
Robert Redford directs Norman Mclean's autobiographical novella on fly fishing, country living and familial relations with a strict Presbyterian father. Set in pristine wilderness town in Montana, It's the story of two brothers growing up in an emotionally constricted home. Their only emotional outlet: fly fishing.
Craig Sheffer and Brad Pitt leads the cast delivering above average performances. The pace is slow and we do get a lot of narration from Normal (voiced by Redford) that helps us understand the story better.
I'm not sure if I did like the movie but I definitely didn't hate it in any way. The story was great but it somehow didn't really strike any chords. I did get interested in fly fishing though. I thought it was a nice, quiet way to pass the time and relax. Not to mention the free food!
Story: 7/10.
Boredom Factor: 6/10.
Pace: Slow.
Talk to Action Ratio: 8:2.
Watch Again Rating: 4/10.
Overall: 6/10.
