Rented this one despite being under-impressed by the rather bland brief summary on Neflix, just went for the Big Sky Country views (Montana is awe-inspiring) and being mildly curious how did Brad Pitt ended up in it.

It is quite common that an outstanding book gets minced into a soft and sticky screen pulp, lacking the original flavor and sometimes even the original story. I knew this one was based on a novel too, thus increasing the chances of a disappointment.

Long story short, I wasn't disappointed at all. The pace, the rhythm, the poetry, the backstage, everything just seems to fit together. Sometimes, to tell a story that is beautiful and sad, one doesn't need its heroes to wield a sword and scale the bamboo tops. Sometimes a fishing pole is just enough. Sometimes even the longest journey comes to a sudden and unexpected end. Sometimes the forest is unseen behind the trees, until it's all gone and floating down the river.

And .. oh well.. this movie is as much about fishing as "Fight Club" is about making soap. Fishing here just happened to be something they did with passion, with integrity, with all their heart.
