Review of A Quiet Place Part II (2021) by Nateed — 01 Aug 2021

A Quiet Place Part 2 is a great movie. John Krasinski does a wonderful job here and I would even say he does better than the first movie. His directing is a lot more polished and he knows how and when to create suspense.

Krasinski's writing is also quite good, but I do think it needed a little bit of work. For instance, I think it got a bit slow at times with some parts feeling rushed. The last 20 minutes, while they were good, I think needed to go on for a bit longer.

Although, the dual storylines going on at the same were excellent. I do wish Emily Blunt's character, Evelyn, and her son, Marcus played by Noah Jupe, got a bit more to do, but the storyline they did have was solid.

The other storyline with Millicent Simmonds and Cillian Murphy is excellent. It felt very grounded and had a lot of moments that put me on the edge of my seat. Both actors do an amazing job portraying their respective characters.

While I am talking about the cast, everyone does a great job here. Even the actors that are only on screen for a handful of scenes. My favorite part of the movie was the opening sequence. Those first 10 minutes were crazy and had so many moments where I was gasping and nearly closing my eyes.

John Krasinski really nailed this scene and I would even say it is the best out of both movies. He captured the essence of suspense, thrill, and fear perfectly. The part where Evelyn is about to get hit by the bus is genuinely hard to watch.

It sets up the tone of the film in such a good way. The final shots in the ending were also pretty good. I know I said that it felt a little rushed earlier, but it was an impactful ending. Jupe and Simmonds do a really good job here and their character development feels earned.

Plus the VFX creatures looked particularly well-done with such a step up from the first film. You can definitely tell the second film got a higher budget. Overall, A Quiet Place Part 2 is an excellent film with great directing and acting all around.

While the writing could be a tad bit better, it is a solid script. Is it better than the first movie? I would say that this film is a smidge better than the first installment. Both are very good, but I think this one excels better in some categories.
