Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Will S — 19 Apr 2018
Well acted movie. Feeling of the family's isolation was nicely done. Tension also very well done.
Buuuuuuttttt, the illogic of the entire premise is so ludicrous that it immediately squanders any capital it has built up.
So here we have an alien race of creatures that attacks earth (apparently sans weapons from what we are shown). The creatures are very fast and lethal but not particularly quiet as they go about their business - which is ironic to say the least. They don't seem to be immune to firearms as one is dispatched fairly easily with a shotgun blast to the face. So it seems a bit absurd that this race of creatures would somehow manage to take the whole human race completely by surprise and be any match at all for modern weaponry (think A10 Warthog, Apache attack helicopter or Abrams tank. Think flamethrower for crying out loud!). They congregate mercilessly and rather mindlessly (they are blind as bats and have no sense of smell either apparently) to the slightest man made sound, so how hard would it be to trick them.
Into congregating into a pit, then blowing them all to kingdom come?
To much suspension of disbelief in this one, sorry. We went to a 4:00 matinee at a rather large movie house on a Thursday mind you, so I wouldn't have expected a full theater, but there were two of us and two other guys in the entire theater. The two other guys left 15 minutes in. 95% RT critics score? Bah humbug!
No one will even remember this movie in a couple years.
